I met Susan!

Question:

It was great putting faces to names. But you forgot about Susan’s painted toenails ;op——

Susan did take a picture of her toenails, I’m sure she’ll post it when she goes back home. — Victor Martinez Owned and operated by the Fantastic Seven (TM)

Response:

I picked up Susan at the airport yesterday afternoon. We had a great time together. She is a lovely person and we really enjoyed her company. The cats loved her as well. She brought toys for the kids, wine for us, a cookbook for me and a picture book for Tom. We had a great dinner at our favorite indian restaurant and we spent most of the day today just lounging with the cats. We got to show her around a little bit and I just came back from dropping her off at the retreat center where her yoga workshop will take place. I’m sure she’ll have a great time, the place is beautiful and the weather couldn’t be better. We’re in full spring mode here in Austin, trees are leafing out and blooming and the temperatures are just perfect. Susan took more pictures than I did, so I’m sure she’ll have more to share when she goes back home. In the meantime, here’s a couple:

There are two pictures, be sure to see both. I also took video of Susan playing with Issa, Fez, and Rufous. It’s a 50 MB avi file. Does anybody know how to convert it to a more manageable size?

Great photos, loved the one with Basho on Susan’s shoulders. And Victor, you never told us how good looking you were… Tom is one lucky guy. Hubba Hubba. Yowie (I think you & Joel look alot alike)

LOL! Basho seems to have taken to Susan! And I wish that sun would hurry up and come over here, too. You look like you had a wonderful time together. It looks like a good time was had by all, maybe especially Basho.  I have no idea what to do with the video file, but can’t wait to see it.  :-D —— Krista

We had the whole place to ourselves except for another party of lissom ladies of a certain age at a Yoga workshop.

You were a party of lissom ladies?

What a wonderful opportunity for stress reduction, we thought! They didn’t speak English, and to begin were gracious and welcoming of our introductions in hesitant poor French. But when we explained that we were computer scientists (the best approximation my French could run to) they backed off in horror as though we had admitted to a contagious disease.

Well, yes, but it was probably you scruffy hairy men referring to yourselves as lissom ladies that did the trick.   Chakolate — The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right place but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.   –Dorothy Nevill

In English it means "overweening pride," and it is an essential component of a traditional tragedy.  The hero traditionally falls because of his hubris. Priscilla, former English major

I knew all that, but the word had gone.

Oh, I knew you knew everything but had lost grip on the word temporarily.

I guess the random buckshot of aging had taken out that brain cell, or rather its usual retrieval link.

Happens to me all the time.  What’s funny is that sometimes I’ll retrieve the word next to it, as it were, or bring back a word which is a conflation of two words which are related to the word I’m searching for, if not synonyms.  It’s a known side-effect of the antidepressant I’m on, plus this aging business takes its toll.  I do regain access to the word eventually, though, so I know it’s nothing for me to worry about.

Priscilla, former English major Former? Surely aging doesn’t remove that too ?-)

Well, there’s a bit of me that will always be an English major, but I don’t generally identify that way anymore.  It’s been — gosh! — 30 years!  Plus I wasn’t a very *good* English major.  I chose that major because I figured it would be the easiest for me.   Priscilla

It is part of the physical fitness program for students attending classes here in Norman. They also have a gym, swimming pool, outside and inside tracks, and various one hour classes from vigorous aerobics to mild yoga and stretching. Question:

Spending 3 days in Aran in September.  What can I expect?  And what about the weather?  Thanks, Roisin

Response:

Hello, my name is Robert and I live in NYC. I was on the Aran Islands last month for 10 days and it is great. It might not be for everyone, but if you want peace and quite then you will enjoy it. If you can, take a hike along the cliffs on the Ocean side as the coast line is just breathtaking. We stayed at a cottege that was so charming and at this place, she cooked some great meals too! You can ride your bikes, hike, swim, relax, and just enjoy the feeling of the place as after the 2nd day or so, the place grows on you. There is something magicial to the place and I hope we do a yoga workshop there next

Kundalini awakening?

Question:

Greetings to you all. I’m only 19 years old and living in a country with practically no Buddhist meditation centers or anything like that.

Dear Tuu, I nearly can’t beliefe that – where is that place you life? Other than this, I think meditation really, really kicks ass. I’m seriously planning to move to India to do some research after I’ve graduated (which will unfortunately not happen very soon). I’m thinking of retreating into a monastery within the next 20 years. My life is just too fucking weird, I must try to find out what has brought me into this karmic position.

;-) ) I add here some hopefully inspiring quotes. Sat Nam – Hari Har Singh Follow the three Rs: – Respect for yourself – Respect for others – Responsibility for all your actions. Nepalese mantra Drop all ideas of achieving in meditation, just do it naturally; what happens, happens on its own. One day, effortlessly, everything starts happening by itself. Osho Man creates his own confusion just because he goes on rejecting himself, condemning himself, not accepting himself. Then a chain of confusion, inner chaos and misery is created. Why don’t you accept yourself as you are? What is wrong? The whole existence accepts you as you are, why don’t you? Osho Meditation is not a solution of any problem in particular; it solves nothing. It simply helps you to get rid of the mind, the problem-creator. It simply helps you to slip out of the mind as a snake slips out of the old skin. Osho Hope is always for the future, and the reality is always in the present. Hope deprives you of the present, and the present is the only moment you can explore your reality, your beauty, your truth, your divineness. Osho Becoming whole is becoming authentic, becoming yourself – whosoever you are, whatsoever you are. Accept your limitations, accept your imperfections. That’s what it means to be a human being. Just you wait.  You stay the course and these things just kind of creep up on you.  It doesn’t hurt to know what to do. Last Saturday I took part in an advanced yoga workshop and released something deep inside. Sunday I had this weird depressed feeling all day.  I never get depressed.  I knew it was in the realm of destressing/siddhis something from the nether world. Managed to detach myself from it – breath through it and it left my body. I doubt that you will be immune. — ~Stu

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Greetings to you all. After reading the (somewhat hilarious) post about Kundalini awakening [alt.meditation] and its presumed symptoms while shitting, I decided to tell about my own experiences. No, they have nothing to do with taking a crap :) , but I hope I could get some intelligent answers here. Sorry if my English isn’t perfect, it’s not my native tongue. I have practiced Vipassana meditation almost daily for about six months now. (I do have a little experience with psychedelic substances, although I don’t know whether that’s relevant.) My sessions have gradually deepened and I have gained several insights into my life and self. A couple of months ago I felt for the first time a very intense "burning" sensation in my solar plexus region. After this experience, weird things have happened. I can’t really explain them, as they’re related to my personal life in such a complex way. I’ve gone through weird, seemingly irrational periods of depression; fears/phobias and many odd memories from childhood have emerged from my subconscious; and I’ve felt "crawling", shuddering, and tingling sensations around my body. It seems that some of my other chakras have also become active, although the solar plexus is by far the most noticeable. Sometimes the burning in it is so intense that I have to lie down; other times (while meditating) it has pulsated rapidly and "circulated" below my chest. I think it might have something to do with certain emotional blockages — mostly fears and social ignorance — I have had to deal with as my spiritual path has started to manifest itself. (I have these very interesting phobias about certain plants & other quite extraordinary stuff.) And… I can’t really speak about them, as I know it would sound way too insane, but think I’ve had a couple of (psychic?) experiences that apparently defy rational explanation. My "evil side" has given me some pretty nasty stuff to think about; sometimes I even have suicidal thoughts, even though I don’t really have an intention to follow them. I also think a lot about death and dying in general. I don’t think I’m going crazy… but you can never be sure, can you? Sometimes I almost feel that I’m going through a painful purgation process or "dark night of the soul" that the Christian mystics spoke about. I’m a student of comparative religion and these phenomena are quite interesting to me, although I have had to reconsider some of my metaphysical assumptions. ;) I’ve read about Kundalini awakening on the Internet and it seems that many of my symptoms are very similiar to it, although I don’t want to make any hasty conclusions. One question I haven’t found the answer to is: how long can such an experience last? Is it immediate or can it take several months, even years? I do not have a teacher nor do I have the opportunity to find one right now — I’m only 19 years old and living in a country with practically no Buddhist meditation centers or anything like that. Other than this, I think meditation really, really kicks ass. I’m seriously planning to move to India to do some research after I’ve graduated (which will unfortunately not happen very soon). Response:

These are all pertinent symptoms of opening the solar plexus chakra, which you’ve apparently done. It is the animal power/  lower psychic chakra and can get you into much more serious trouble. It should not be concentrated on or stimulated in any way, as you now know to your regret. You can develop amazing "miraculous" abilities and powers, but the price is incredibly steep. You also may have been "recruited" by the evil ones who like to hang out in that level. Yes? They are disgusting, but they can/will promise fame, fortune, the moon.  You need to find a soul doctor or clairvoyant who can help you close that chakra before you get into real trouble.

<delurk I (mildly) disagree that he needs to "close" the chakra. I think, rather than being to do with animal/instinctual energy (which I associate with Muladhara), the solar plexus relates to personal power – the human’s force of will. It seems he has already had a number of the problems associated with developing the solar center. I think perhaps he will either follow through with his yoga until he has become that thing or else become insane. I also think he should desist immediately. I also follow the way of developing the solar plexus force. My advice: if you don’t have a guru or ishta devata, leave this well alone. Whatever techniques you are doing that relate to that chakra, I’d strongly advise you to cease and desist. I’ve been exactly where you are and I know it’s no picnic.

I can confirm that it’s not pleasant to go through this method for acquiring powers. The levels and rules of communication have changed for you now, as you realize there are different realms or planes which we simultaneously exist in and interract. And you can see how everyone around you really is asleep. It’s a lonely feeling.

Not everyone, if you know what I mean. And that’s something that will really "freak him out" when he discovers it. I’m just supporting the advice you’ve given.

Response:

Do you think the word ‘die’ is a little strong? Try and imagine those last moments, when you are taking that last breath, you have exhaled and you can’t inhale, there is a seperation unfelt and unseen by you.  You are slipping away faster and faster.  Should you panic, call 911, call your mommy, or should you watch what happens next attentively.  You will know doubt be forced to watch it anyways but you may freak in the process and pass out from the release of emotion and fear and miss all the fun. If you are going to play the kundalini game you can’t go halfway, I mean you can try, please tell me what happens, I’m interested.  But the way I see it you have to make that big committment, all or nothing.   Something is going to happen that will defy everything we are brought up to believe.  Your body might start doing things you would expect in another sequel of the Excorcist, depending on how much energy you invoke, conjur, manifest, spew…. You are pushing a start button with no off switch. So your approach is everything. Just think of it as entering the twilight zone Would you risk your life to find the truth, perhaps your sanity too? Afterall this isn’t just your mind that you are playing with, it involves your body too.  You don’t start it, all the sensations just a blazing along, then you decide "I don’t want to play anymore!" Ever hear the song "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull, this train doesn’t stop too. So when it starts with eyes wide open as if looking into the maw of death let go let the chips fall where they may cause after all its what you wanted in the first place. Can you die from this? Some people think so.  They think its totally dangerous, afterall you aren’t just screwing with the ultimate, it’s the ultimate’s energy just pull up to the pump and say ‘fill’er up!’ So if thats the case cause wanting may definetely be better than having if you try to chump out in midstream.

Response:

Learn to control the chakras, learn to control the kundalini, do NOT i repeat do not "go with the flow" , unless you are  that type of person. If you dont want to control it , you are getting into trouble, you are just like "most" people are.If u go with the flow… the flow will take you almost anywhere, to hell or to heaven, it may even take away your personality leaving you more anxious rather than feeling *Good and balanced*. Same goes with meditation. It may seem cool to "go with the flow" but it is certainly NOT what i am doing myself. What i do is control my thoughts all the time, whether i am meditating or not (everything you do in life is actually meditatation). My point advice here is : 1 Keep controlling your mind during the day whether meditating or not. 2 Allow yourself to think in the ways YOU want to think, and do not let the energy "take you" 3 Remember : You are the one who should be controlling the kundalini, don

I havent even had the time to have my lawyer look at that. But, in short I do not have time for this cesspool anymore with my recent offer to write a manuscript and with the other things I have to do with my life. Will I post again? My inspiration for revealing the names of abusive teachers comes from the direct advice of the Dalai Lama in his Open Letter to Buddhist Teachers. It is by naming abusive teachers publicly that we protect future students,  and perhaps prevent future abuse. However, power structures based around abusive teachers are such that devoted groupies of a particular teaacher, seek to protect their teacher through various forms of violence. The forms of violence that I have been subj ected to include the following: 1. Blatant libel ( a good example is a person who has accused me of having been arrested for attending a yoga workshop, when I dont even have a speeding ticket to my name) 2.Attempts to discredit me: This has included making false accusations against me, characterizing me as mentally ill, a liar, etc. (this "hysterical woman" argument has been one used for decades by the patriarchy to silen ce victims of abuse). 3. Fake e mails – As we all should know, it is all too easy to fake e mails and posts on the Internet and I have been subjected to this. This includes posts which carry my name, along with obscenities, which I did not pos t.  Buddhist Peace Fellowship Newsletter and Yoga Journal. These DISTRACTION tactics will no longer be given any power. I feel that flamers will be seen for the violent fascists that they are and that sincere and kind people, truly interested in helping victims of abuse in our Sa nghas and Yoga Communties will see these flamers for what they are – violent and sick people. The same type of people who would give you Kool Aid at the Jim Jones party – so blind in their "obedience" to their teacher ( o r in the case of some, to their own hatred) that they forget kindness and compassion and can think of nothing other than hatred and violence towards myself, the women I support, and my cause. This letter will be pasted on any future flames. ***Anyone sincerely interested in myself, my work, or about any libel posted about me on the net, can e mail me and find out the FACTS about what I am and what I do!. For those who want to believe the tactics of hatred an d violence expounded and demonstrated by these violent, stalking flamers – then, well, God help you!*** Peace to all of you, and God bless you. I have also received hate mail which I have reason to suspect is from my ex-cult leader’s followers. My husband’s life has been threatened, my dog’s life has been threatened, defamatory letters have been sent to my work. This is completely and utterly false with regards to my involvement in this tragic affair.  I have posted to USENET (alt.meditation and alt.yoga) notes critical of Ari’s tactics online.  I have *never* sent her an email message, and for this reason she cannot substantiate these claims about me.  We all know what the unfortunate *real* story is.  –jody radzik. Welcome to alt.meditation and alt.yoga, where we are all psychopathic lunatics and only one person is really sane.  Happy New Year.
