Best video for beginners?
Question:
I recently went to the video store to buy a beginner’s video on Yoga – the selection was enormous. I’ve never tried yoga before. Any suggestions on which video(s) are the best for thos just starting out. Thanks,
Can you take a class first? I used to use books and vids a few years back, but didn’t stick with it. Now I take classes, and the difference is tremendous. I suggest a few classes and then look into books and videos. Norm — Norman M. Jacobowitz O/S: Linux http://www.linux.org/ Ride: Yamaha XT 225 http://www.yamahausa.com/mc/dp/dps.html

That’s good news! I remember a time, just a few years ago when I personally had all the yoga videos and most of the audio tapes made. Now there are more and more to help us practice. To find the one that’s right for you I suggest reading not just the back of the boxes, but also getting a copy of Yoga Journal, the holiday one should be excellent, read the reviews, and the descriptions in the Book & Tape Source. Their own beginners tape by Patricia Walden is a fine one. I’m partial to anything by Lilias Folan too. If possible rent a few from your video store or library before you buy. We use tapes to learn new things and also to support our practices, and then there are the focused subjects like pranayama/breathing, or Yoga for Round Bodies. I’m always getting new tapes even though I don’t use them very much. Usually I prefer to practice inwardly focusing. There are times when it is great to invite the image of a teacher into the living room and let them lead me through. Whatever you choose I wish you an enjoyable practice. peace, sandra
