Thanks to all who posted advice…

Question:

And also e-mailed me.  I have really given each post message a lot of thought.  But I must be honest with everyone.  I don’t know too much about the actual yoga background.  I mean, I don’t know all the asana names by heart.  And I noticed the word Sattva?  I think that was it.  I don’t really know what that is.  Also Muspana  or Muspar  Cakra? Something like that.  I don’t know what that is either.  Maybe ya’ll would shine some light for me on tha subject.  I really have a lot to learn about yoga.  A LOT!                   thanks again for all the advice                                 signed, Salvador

Response:

Namaste Sattva means balanced or balancing — sometimes also pure. In yoga bringing about balance is the necessary step in bringing about greater harmonization and alignment with body, mind, spirit, breath, creation, creator, etc) as a dynamic relationship in every day life. Thus the awareness of sattva (utilizing asana, breath, eating, walking, and in all activities is encouraged. It’s a gradual awakening that we develop through authentic yoga practice bringing it into our lives, integrating and increasing it. The "names" are not important, but rather to point out to our awareness these  operational vectors in our lives and possible ways to harmonize and integrate them is part of the process. In the classical system there are seven chakras. Two start with the letter M. One is the earth chakra (muladhara) located near the sacrum and pelvic floor and another is the fiery jewelled chakra (manipura) located in the solar plexus area. Chakra awareness allows us to get in touch with our internal body/mind patterns and then through that awareness allows us to learn how consciously move any stuck energy (through this awareness). For some this can be a distraction and for others it is a functional path i.e., some schools of yoga such as hatha, kundalini, laya, and tantra yoga utilize the chakras, but then again the purpose is not external knowledge, but rather inner awareness. There exist many diverse yoga schools, but their goal is the same. There exists many good books that are available as well as web sites devoted to describing the chakras and these yoga topics. Hope this is a good pointer. Love
