Something somewhat on topic for a change

Question:

often.  I understand what you mean by never having worked at it.  I have never really openly tried to contact the dead save once, and that was for a dear friend.  It didn’t work. the years to come, and perhaps the correct practice will help.  It might also help if I knew how to cast a circle properly.  :)

Merry met yet again Izzy :) , I may have a suggestion for you about why you may not have been able to contact your friend.  I believe that when a person dies, they have three choices, the first it to be reincarnated, and then they move on to thier next lives. if your friend did this it would make sense that you couldn’t contact him/her.  The second choice is to hang around for a while, watching loved ones and such (aka become a ghost)  and then when they want to move on to their next life or the third option they can.  And the third choice is to go to the summerland with the Lord and Lady.  I have a feeling that if after being in the summerland you feel there is more for you to learn you can return to be reincarnated (can you tell that I believe in reincarnation)  Now mind you this is all my opinion. And it is entirely possible that I am wrong. As far as casting the circle… have you read Wicca a guide for the solitary practionar, I believe that they have a basically simple outline for learning to cast a circle. Response:

Merry Met Izzy, I have talk to the dead, sort of.  It was never long dead but very recently after their deaths while I was young.   And it was not something I worked at, it was if they came to tell me they were alright and happy and at peace. As if they knew I was woring and they came to put my heart and mind at easy.  Now mind you this could all have been a childs imagination working overtime, but I choose not to believe that.  I am comfortable with death, and I know that it is not an ending, but another beginning, simply because of what memorys I hold after my experiance with death.

—– That’s very interesting Winterose and Merry Met to you as well.  I have had similiar experiences.  Hearing voices and the like.  Though some people on the ng might like to hang that up to schizophrenia I choose to believe it was the departed I was speaking of.  Lately all I get are straight emotions. Contentment, great relaxation, peace, happiness, sometime saddness, but not often.  I understand what you mean by never having worked at it.  I have never really openly tried to contact the dead save once, and that was for a dear friend.  It didn’t work.  I think speaking to the dead is more of a passive thing, for me anyway.  I believe it is possible. that there is another world beyond ours as we see it now, though I cannot confess to the nature of this world with any accuracy.  Perhaps I will get better at it in the years to come, and perhaps the correct practice will help.  It might also help if I knew how to cast a circle properly.  :) Peace, Izzy

Merry Meet, Death is an interesting subject. I, too, have no fear. I have cared for the dying and witnessed many passing. The release of the life-force at the moment of death is a truly uplifting experience. I have gained much insight from these passings and my own Near -Death experience as a child. We tend to view death as negative loss (especially those who are grieving). I prefer to look at death as testament of our growth, and to those who have passed as achieving true potential. Yes, I did not mean just walk into a graveyard and start talking.  I mean a conversation, a matter of focus, yes I suppose that is the key. Peace, Izzy

One friend’s father owned an appliance store and had an ancient fridge there that he was going to dispose of.  We took the door from the fridge and used that!  Another friend came into possession (I never asked how) of one of the old fashioned Coke signs (you know, huge red round sign) that was made of metal and in two parts.  We took it apart and used both sides of the sign.  IT WAS WONDERFUL!  We found we could get 12 kids on it at one time for a tip down the hill.  (Piled on top of each other of course.) Goddess only knows why we’re all still alive…

Hello again WinterRose, yes I can follow you with where you’re going.  Yes, I have three of Cunningham’s books and few others, I just need practice doing it, a few more tools perhaps, but I guess I don’t _really_ need them. It would be nice though. Problem is there are no Pagan stores around where I live.  In Seattle yes, but here on the Island?  Well I don’t know, maybe. Wiccan’s don’t advertise their presence in general, problem is that makes them hard to find.  The Island is wierd place though, so if there is a store, or at least a source on the Island I should be able to find it.  I know of a couple.l Pagan non witchcraft places, I don’t know where they are, but we had a speaker come to the college once so I know they exist.  She was a healer, a yoga master.  Pretty neat lady, but she did have a unique perspective on the world and the people in it to put it mildly.  Now it’s my opinion that person is only limited by themselves, so I suppose one could levitate themselves on sheer will power and/or magick.  But I don’t find it very likely.  Good speaking with you. Bright blessings, Izzy

<rofl  Actually what we used was even stranger.  <grin My generation grew up before that part of the country had things made for such activities.  Where I lived it only snowed a handful of times a winter and the city didn’t own any snowplows (still doesn’t).  They used road graders to clear the snow from roads. Anytime we had more than a couple of inches of snow we’d have the day off school.  When I was a teenager a bunch of us would get together and go up to this particular graveyard.  We had to use whatever we could find.  Those sleds with narrow runners just got bogged down so we got inventive. (Piled on top of each other of course.) My family is famous for going to the graveyards, but it’s to look at the tombstones and tell stories to those accompanying you about the dead. I’ve never seen a member of my family stand in a graveyard and talk to the dead.   Loki – who will mostl likely never understand but does like to go sledding in the winter at one particularly hilly and beautiful graveyard

How much merit does anyone here have in being able to talk to the dead?  Is it possible in your mind?  I wouldn’t venture to pry but has anyone actually accomplished this?  What were your experiences, did you hear voices and speak for them, or did they speak through you?  Is it easy or harder with a few people or does it depend on the people?  I have always been interested in this subject and just wanted to see what the views on the ng were on this.  I’ve talked about this kinda sorta with a few people on the ng before, but I thought I’d toss it out there and see what bit. Peace, Izzy

I have ended up doing this once, myself. In my case, I was working with a group that is trying to recreate practices for which we have no written records, so it was a part of a group experience. We found the whole thing valuable; the beings contacted gave us some useful suggestions that seem to work for that sort of magic. However, others in the group had more success with actually communicating with dead people than I did. My own experience is rarely visual or auditory. I didn’t hear voices, but I knew what they wanted to communicate. Once I could find words for it that satisfied them, I spoke them and the need to speak eased off. Hope that helps. —   Bob           One good thing about being wrong is the joy it brings to others
