Self help advice

Question:

I recently had a lump removed from under my skin that was originally diagnosed as a lipoma but after tests has turned out to be a lymphoma. It had been slowly growing for at least 18 months and thinking back about my health I feel that I may have had the condition for sometime before that. What I would like is some advice about how I can help myself to get better and also what alternative therapies are available instead of/or complementary to the usual treatment. I haven’t yet had a consultation to do further tests so I don’t know anything more than it was a lymphoma that was removed. Thanks Mike

Response:

During last year of my life I suufered from exaustion, which I determined to be laziness. A doctor I’am not.

BKS Iyengar, a yoga master in India, has written Light on Yoga. He is world famous for prescribing therapeutic yoga postures. Some postures that help with fatigue include headstand (Sirasana), the plow (Halasana), and the downward dog pose. I would suggest getting help from a yoga teacher doing these poses. Use blankets in a pile under the shoulders for Halasana as this is better for the neck. Light on Yoga gives instruction as does Yoga: The Iyengar Way by the Mehtas. Roots & Wings (below) has a Yoga Page with lots more information. Check it out. — Blessings, Shannon B.
