Grannybird, You might like to read the article posted at http://www.healthscout.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Af?ap=55&id=104148. I believe they reported that nasal irrigation was also a Yoga exercise. I think I’ll just try the toe-and-finger massage myself! Gina
Since this is labelled OT….. I was at a seminar with a part on Yoga. The Yoga master brought some students who demonstrated "drinking" milk through their noses – yes! That’s exactly what they did. Many in the audience were frankly disgusted by this, but I watched with an open and amazed mind. They suck the milk through their nose and it passes out of the mouth into a pan. Not a pretty sight, but the results are reputed to be totally clear sinuses and a relief from upper respiratory problems. Janet Levy

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – This is not about birds other than the fact that I think I am allergic to them. I went to the doc yesterday for a follow up and she told me the only thing that really helps people with chronic upper respiratory problems is snorting saline solution. It took her only a couple of weeks to get rid of her problems after she started the salt thing. Not that I doubted what Jack had to say – just wanted to mention here is another person it worked for and who advocates this practice. I still don’t know when I will have the nerve to try it.

I use to get bronchitis during the winter because it’s so dry here in Colorado (which I know it’s as dry in NM) and there is saline in a nasel spray at the store that helped out a lot… Good luck! What a bummer. As much as you like your birds it is a shame you have an allergy to them. If saline nasal spray will help that’s an easy cheap solution. Actually I bought "Breathe Right" at Costco (2 pack for about $5.00) and I use it as needed (since I cannot take Sudafed) I was instructed to keep it in the fridge so it would be cold when I use it to help with drainage (that is if I can even breathe through my nose when I need to use it!) if yours is just for allergies you probably won’t need to chill it. It’s not terrible at all, just a little weird when it gets into the back canals of your nose, but bearable.
