Children and Yoga

Question:

I am a teacher looking for a yoga exercise for children ranging in age from 5-11.  If you have any information could you please respond to me at

Response:

I teach kids yoga. I have no idea if I’m in your area. I live in southern California If so, feel free to contact me personally. I have  Yoga For Kids it is available as a video and a book. Also A Childs Garden of Yoga. These are both in print. Try Amazon.com or Yoga Journals Books & Tapes for information.         Childrens yoga varies from 5-11, but there are similarities. Keep class fairly short 1/2 hour-45 minutes. No long holds. Lots of games. Start very free form and active, let class slow as you sense the energy of the kids quieting. If some are resistant to the idea of yoga I don’t force them. I ask for an agreement that they will sit on the side and not disrupt the rest of the class. Usually they get involved  by the end of it.         Children are so much fun to practice yoga with, enjoy your practice with them. I do think it is important that before you teach children you already know how to teach yoga. peace, sandra
