Vanja — Thanks for your nice words! I know you’re going to get to your target weight, and your view that it took 3 years to get off and it will take some time to get the weight off is true, true, true. Just keep your focus on it, and you’ll get there before too long. Again, THANKS!!! Yours, Caleb

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Aww!!! *blush* Well, we all need encoragement. I like to think you guys are going to help me lose the weight it’s taken me 3 years to put on, and that I’m going to help someone lose weight too. Just be careful, and don’t you dare give in one inch!! Love V Vanja — Thanks for your cheers! Hope my metabolism is listening! Your enthusiasm is wonderfully contagious!!! Yours, Caleb *pops on her cheerleader outfit* Come on Caleb!! You can do it!!! Get that metabolism going! Vanja Day 93 and still at 202 pounds. Had about 900 calories yesterday but perhaps a little too much salt and cabbage are keeping the scales higher than I would like. For the next several days, I will eat a larger breakfast than usual — about 500 calories worth (today I had cabbage and cheddar cup of noodle soup — for a very filling 500 calories), and if the scales are not lower at night when I get home from work — 200 pounds or so — I will have a very light dinner (or no dinner at all). Only 8 more days to go and I intend to get maximal effects in that time. Of course I am not going to limit water, I’m taking my vitamin/mineral tablet, calcium, etc. (Is such a diet healthy in the long run? Obviously not. But for 8 days, I do not think it will hurt me in the slightest.) We went up our hill last night, my two friends, my son, and the dog belonging to one of my friends. the weather was fun — drizzly for the beginning of the walk, and the rains have come back to Oregon. Looking in the paper, I can see that there are rains predicted for much of the next 5 days, but that will simply make walking a lot more fun. I hope everyone has a great day and a great week and season ahead! I hope we all meet our goals and that all our goals are important ones! Yours, Caleb Day 93 of 100 Days 241/202/195

Caleb,   Awesome numbers.  just under 3 pounds per week is great in my book.   lycon

Response:

Hi Caleb thanks for the words,   I am doing well with my woe at this point.   I view weight problems as I would a drinking or drug problem. Which is you can hold it in check but not end it. ( for me once a food junkie always a food junkie) My weight goes from182  to 186 I weigh myself each monday morning and make the adjustments. I eat clean, drink my water and exercise,  now gym three times per week for cardio and lifting,  the yoga studio twice a week and we do a short yoga session each morning.  friday or Saturday night we go dancing and I try to hit the Rugby pitch about once a month for a fun game Best of luck to you and everyone on this list. I recall you have about seven pounds to go.  I say once you hit  195 go spoil yourself big time. Because this is one of the hardest things to do in life and anyone that is trying to lose weight or have lost their extra weight is a winner in my book Lycon 235/182/182 —- at goal

Response:

Lycon — Nice to see your name again! Thanks for your support! How are you doing these days? If I remember correctly, you made your goal and am sticking at it! (I write this with no little envy). Yours, Caleb

Yoga in Toronto, Ontario?

Question:

Do you have any idea what kind of yoga you want to do? I’m in Toronto. Welcome Leslie

Response:

Hello all, Thanks for your wonderful suggestions.  I will look into the possibility of taking some introductory classes.  What would be considered a reasonable price for a class? I think that I would like to try a taste of the different types of yoga, but my main objectives are to increase strength, flexibility and for stress-relief.  My work is very high-stress, so I need to escape and make some time for just me.  Any recommendations on the kind that might work for me? Thanks, Natasha – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Do you have any idea what kind of yoga you want to do? I’m in Toronto. Welcome Leslie

Tash, I’m having trouble getting this message to the board. The Sivananda Centre on Harbord is great. The Yoga Studio at Bloor and Spadina is also very good and offers a wider variety of classes, but is more expensive. Good Luck ET

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hello, I’m very new to this group, but the posters seem to be very nice and informative here!  Does anyone have a recommendation on yoga studios in Toronto?  I have tried to look for a studio in the downtown area, but can’t really decide on a studio that might be good for beginners. I have only found a Sivananda Yoga Center that offers a beginners course.  Is this a reputable yoga center? If you have any recommendations, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks, Tasha to email me, please remove "pleasedontspamme" from my email address. Thanks!!

Response:

Hi Tasha, Try the University of Toronto. I know there is at least one yoga class offered there.  I do not have the details; the International Students Association may have some info.

where to get matts

Question:

I am new to yoga, have some video tapes and would like to buy a yoga mat and blocks.  Does anyone know where in CANADA, preferably Alberta, one could purchase these items? Pamela Pamela Marriott Dancing Sheep Studio Weaving & Graphics Swan Hills, Alberta Canada

Response:

Hi Pamela, I am from Calgary.  You could probably find some in Edmonton (at some yoga center).  Check out http://www.yoga.ab.ca/yogaab/props.htm . The fastest way would probably to order them through the phone or internet and have them delivered, either Canada or the US. There are lots of suppliers. In Calgary you could check The Yoga Studio http://www.yogastudiocalgary.com/props.htm or The Yoga Centre http://www.yogacalgary.org/pricelist.html . Wade

Response:

i know that some sporting goods stores in the usa carry some supplies now. also some retail stores (ie- target, wal-mart) may also.  but i have no idea what retail stores are in alberta.  you may do better ordering on-line (ie- yogazone.com) ~lisa

Boston yoga

Question:

Yes, Patricia is here in Boston and I studied with her for a couple years, before she cut back her local teaching schedule.  She’s teaching four classes per week (when she’s in town), two of which are advanced/teacher training.  The number for the Iyengar Center in Boston, which she directs, is 666-9551; they’re at 240-A Elm Street in Davis Square (ironically located above the Dunkin’ Donuts (how do you spell doughnots?  donaughts?  ??)  I’d also highly recommend Karin Stephan, Peentz Dubble, and Annie Hoffman, all of whom are also on the schedule. On Beacon Hill, Barbara Benagh teaches at The Yoga Studio.  She also has an Iyengar background, but has branched out and now has a very different focus in her teaching; more core movement, energy and breath work and less precision/alignment of the limbs. Zoe Stewart and Arthur Kilmurray also teach near Cambridge/Somerville, but I have less experience with them.  There’s lots more around too. If anyone wants to email me and let me know a bit about why they want to do yoga and what they’re looking for and I’ll try and recommend a teacher that I think would most closely match that focus. Boston is actually blessed with many excellent teachers; but with a few exceptions I don’t think many of the local yogis follow this group.  Sorry I missed your post.
